Post: Rethinking Email

Forget everything we've done.

What if you could redesign email? What if you could let go of the past? What if your needs as a user were more important than the processes and risks of a company. What if people were important? What would happen if you could start fresh?

An idea is born. It starts off great. You spend years and years optimizing the hell out of it. One day you wake up and that idea that was so incredibly groundbreaking, is the past, it's dead. You were fixated on perfecting this idea that you lost sight of the greater vision. Why did you even start this to begin with? Ideas are born out of frustration. There are problems and you want to fix it.

So so so many ideas turn into businesses and products. What we often forget is that an idea only exists if the problem exists. Problems change and grow over time but products rarely do.

That's what I feel happened to email. It was solving a communication problem. However, that problem has changed with the introduction of cellphones, ipads, smartwatches, etc. That problem has changed but email has stayed the same. Email hasn't changed, it just continues to be optimized, reaching a point of extinction.

So what if you could redesign email with the problem in mind? What if you could start fresh? What would that look like?
